  • Laurence Brahm: The spirit of China-We shall overcome

Throughout China's past four decades of rapid economic growth, it has met the challenges of alleviating poverty and promoting education and economic advancement with unprecedented achievement. To a great extent, this has been achieved on the basis of unity among China's unique population that includes 55 ethnic minorities.

  • Harvey Dzodin: US’ scheme at G7 meeting only divides allies

And it will not be easy to implement even the generalized areas of the agreement to counter China, which are more like wish-lists than concrete plans with funded commitments.

  • Harvey Dzodin: The coming apart of US

As an American, I was reluctant to admit that my country was coming apart at the seams, even after Trump, but now the straw that broke the camel’s back came with the revelation that Arizona has decided to execute convicted criminals in a gas chamber powered by the same chemical, hydrogen cyanide known as Zyklon B, that resulted in millions of deaths of Jews, gays, gypsies, disabled people and others at the hands of Adolph Hitler and his Nazi henchmen in the 1940s, most notably at the Auschwitz death camp.

  • [CGTN] Andy Mok: Addressing China’s population challenge will require both proven and imaginative new approaches

China has successfully mastered complex policy challenges in the past, but this demographic challenge may be one of the most complexes it has ever faced since successfully addressing these issues require both proven policy approaches as well as the imaginative creation of entirely new ones involving both theory and practice that must be applied in a much more diverse and complex society.

  • He Weiwen: One year elapsed, where to find 8 million jobs?

U.S. monthly non-farm employment fell sharply to 266,000 in April, from 916,000 in March, and far below the estimated 1 million. Due to the poor number in new jobs, the unemployment rate rose by 0.1 percentage point to 6.1 percent.

  • Harvey Dzodin: Remembering one of China’s greatest modern heroes Yuan Longping

This weekend saw the passing of one of China's greatest modern heroes, agronomist Yuan Longping, at the age of 91. Yuan was loved in China, and his scientific breakthroughs in rice hybridization increased yields to help China and the world largely eliminate severe starvation.
