CCG Hold Event to Welocme Ambassador Ischinger of MSC

On April 12, 2024, a delegation from Germany led by Amb. Wolfgang Ischinger, Chairman of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) Foundation, visited the headquarters of the Center for China and Globalization(CCG) in Beijing. Before the breakfast roundtable hosted by CCG, they exchanged views with Amb. SHI Mingde, former Chinese Ambassador to Germany. Later, they met with representatives from invited think tanks and German MNCs, discussing an extensive range of topics such as opportunities and challenges in Sino-German bilateral business cooperation and China-Europe relations.German Chancellor Scholz will lead a high-level business delegation on an official visit to China from April 14th to 16th and despite escalating geopolitical tensions, it is expected that Chancellor Scholz’s visit will lay the foundation for expanding future Sino-German trade and investment relations. 



It was against this backdrop that CCG hosted this roundtable dialogue. Dr. Mabel Lu Miao, CCG Co-founder and Secretary General and Munich Young Leader 2020, extended a warm welcome to Amb. Wolfgang Ischinger and the members of the German delegation.

Amb. Wolfgang Ischinger, former Chairman of the Munich Security Conference and former German Ambassador to the United States, and Amb. SHI Mingde, former Chinese Ambassador to Germany, delivered speeches on a range of topics, including the current status and future prospects of Sino-German and China-Europe relations, as well as opportunities and challenges to cooperation.

Victor Gao, CCG Vice President, WANG Yiwei, CCG Nonresident Senior Fellow, Jean-Monnet Chair Professor and Director of the Center for European Studies of Renmin University of China, JIN Ling, Director of the Department for European Studies, China Institutes of International Studies (CIIS), also shared their views on current hot topics concerning China-Europe relations.

As China’s leading non-governmental think tank, CCG has maintained continuous exchanges with individuals from various sectors in Germany for many years. On February 17, 2024, CCG convened a side event within the 60th Munich Security Conference. On November 16, 2023, CCG President Dr. Henry Huiyao Wang was invited to take part in a panel discussion titled “Interdependencies in the global economy of the Congress – Strategic partnerships in the Indo-Pacific: reducing dependencies, expanding trade, implementing the China strategy” by the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag, which was preceded by a Welcome & Introduction by Friedrich Merz, Chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag, a speech by Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and a conversation between von der Leyen and Jens Spahn MP, Deputy Chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag. On November 18, 2023, Henry Huiyao Wang and CCG Secretary-General Miao Lu visited the Korber Foundation in Germany. On April 17, 2024, CCG President Dr. Wang Huiyao will be in Berlin speaking at The Berlin Moot hosted by the Berghof Foundation.
