The Asian 21st Century has received broad attention internationally. Offered as an open access book, it reached over 11,000 downloads in only 10 days after its release on January 1, 2022. According to Yingying Zhang, Senior Editor for Asia Pacific at Springer Nature, the volume of downloads of this book undoubtedly place it in the top 10% of Springer Nature’s open access books, at least in the humanities & social sciences genre.

The author, Kishore Mahbubani, is currently a Distinguished Fellow at the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore. He is a former President of the UN Security Council (Jan 2001, May 2002) and the Founding Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (2004-2017). Mahbubani writes and speaks prolifically on the rise of Asia, geopolitics and global governance. His has published nine books and written articles for the New York Times, Washington Post, Financial Times and Foreign Affairs, which have earned him global recognition as “the muse of the Asian century.” He was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2019.

The Asian 12st Century consists of essays written by Mahbubani to explore the challenges and dilemmas faced by the West and Asia in an increasingly interdependent world village and in the context of intensifying geopolitical competition. The book is divided into four parts – the End of the Era of Western Domination, the Return of Asia, the Peaceful Rise of China, and the Challenges Facing Globalization, Multilateralism and Global Cooperation.

In his book, Mahbubani explains in detail how Asia will become the new engine of globalization in the 21st century. He argues that the 21st century will see the end of an era of Western domination in world history, the return of Asia to the center of the world stage, China’s peaceful rise and a reshaping of the world order.

CCG was very honored to take on the work of translating the book into Chinese. The Chinese version has been published by CITIC Press Group.

We hope the Chinese version will enable a broader audience to learn from its lessons and gain new perspectives on what are surely some of the most important issues of our age.

The fifth volume of the series is Dr. Henry Huiyao Wang’s work The Ebb and Flow of Globalization: Chinese Perspectives on China’s Development and Role in the World. This book focuses on globalization and China’s evolving role in the world, offering unique perspectives on a tumultuous period that began with Donald Trump’s election and ended with the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. This period saw the global landscape reshaped by China’s continued rise, intensifying great power competition, and a public health crisis that has changed how we live. The essays center on three interconnected themes – China’s remarkable development under its policy of Reform and Opening-up, China’s deepening integration into the global economy and rise in an increasingly multipolar world, as well as the quest to reinvigorate global governance and multilateralism to address the pressing global challenges of the 21st century. The book was released in August, 2022.

CCG Global Dialogues
CCG launched the CCG Global Dialogue Series with the aim of encouraging calm, rational discussion in which we can share different views and work together to make sense of the momentous changes that are occurring in our world today. The CCG Global Dialogue Series invites experts from different countries and disciplines that could help us put current events in context and explore solutions to our shared challenges. We also share these talks in book-form to provide the public with additional access to the insights shared by our speakers, compare and contrast their perspectives, and gain a greater understanding of important issues such as globalization, global governance and multilateralism, the global economy, shared transnational threats, and China-US relations.
