Two-Way Street: 2018 Update U.S.-China Direct Investment Trends
Amidst rising tension in the Sino-U.S. economic relationship, on April 19, the Center for China and Globalization (CCG) hosted a roundtable in Beijing, bringing together experts from China and the U.S. to discuss foreign direct investment (FDI) between the two countries. The event marked the China launch of a new report, Two-Way Street: 2018 Update on the US-China Direct Investment Trends, a research project led by the Rhodium Group and the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations (NCUSCR).

CCG, ICTSD Co-host Symposium on Outlooks of Global Trade Policies in 2018
On Mar 27, 2018, CCG joined the International Center for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) and China Institute for WTO Studies at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE WTO Institute) hosting a symposium to discuss the prospect of global trade policies in 2018.

CCG expert delegation visit US think tanks to boost bilateral understanding
At the beginning of May, the Center for China and Globalization expert delegation, whilst in the US conducting “track II diplomacy” activities, visited several think tanks and research institutions to promote greater bilateral understanding. These included the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Hudson Institute, Heritage Foundation, Wilson Center Kissinger Institute, American Enterprise Institute (AEI), Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Cato Institute and Pew Research Centre, among others. During these exchanges CCG representatives held dialogues with their US counterparts on topics such as Sino-US relations and trade tensions, global governance, multilateral trade mechanisms and future cooperation between Chinese and American think tanks and research organizations.

Professor Woo offers a fresh perspective on the roots and remedies for Sino-US trade tensions
On July 5, just a day before proposed tariffs from Washington and Beijing were slated to go into effect, Professor Wing Thye Woo gave a presentation at CCG HQ in Beijing offering new perspectives on the roots and resolutions for the conflict. Amidst ongoing Sino-US trade tensions, this was the latest in a series of events that CCG has held to share different views on the topic, aid mutual understanding, and promote discussion of potential policy solutions.

CCG releases new report Understanding the US-China Trade War: Analysis and CCG Recommendations
At this crucial moment with both sides in deadlock, on July 24, the Center for China & Globalization (CCG) released the report “Understanding the US-China trade War: Analysis and CCG Recommendations.” Based on CCG’s long-term ongoing research and investigations through visits to the US, the report presents an in-depth, systematic appraisal of Sino-US economic relations. It draws on solid empirical research and data to dispel misunderstandings surrounding the current dispute and puts forward recommendations to resolve current tensions and promote the healthy development of Sino-US relations.
