Spanish State Secretary for Foreign & Global Affairs visits CCG

On June 26, 2024, a Spanish delegation led by Diego Martínez Belío, State Secretary for Foreign and Global Affairs of Spain, visited the Beijing headquarters of the Center for China and Globalization (CCG). They had a discussion with CCG Vice President Victor Gao and other experts and scholars present, engaging in an in-depth and fruitful dialogue on topics such as EU-China economic and trade relations.

CCG Vice President Victor Gao began by extending a warm welcome to the Spanish delegation, noting that this visit comes at a crucial time of significant importance for China, Spain, and Europe as a whole. He emphasized CCG’s commitment to actively listening to and sharing insights to elevate Sino-European exchanges and cooperation to a higher level.

Diego Martínez Belío, in his speech, highlighted the current friendly and cooperative nature of Sino-Spainish relations the both sides maintaining close cooperation based on mutual understanding and respect. He also elaborated on the 2024 European Parliament elections and provided an in-depth analysis of the future development paths and prospects for Europe.

During the dialogue session, Belío, Victor Gao, and other attendees engaged in an insightful exchange on the prospects and challenges of Sino-European economic and trade relations, sharing their unique perspectives on globalization and other regional hot topics.

Spanish government representatives attending this meeting also included Marta Betanzos, Ambassador of Spain; María Luisa Benítez-Donoso, Chief of Cabinet of the State Secretary; Guillermo Anguera, Deputy Director for Southern and Eastern Asia; Julio Herráiz, Deputy Head of Mission and Alfonso Noriega; Alfonso Noriega, Director of the Economic and Trade Office of Spain in Beijing.

CCG participants included Bing HAN, Senior Research Fellow at CCG; Caixiao WANG, Associate Professor at the School of European Studies, Beijing International Studies University; Zichen WANG, Research Fellow and Int’l Comms Director at CCG; Mengqi WU, Research Fellow at CCG; and Yan LUO, Media and Public Relations Director at CCG.

One of China’s leading international think tanks, CCG keeps a close watch on trends in global governance, Sino-European relations, sustainable development, and other key issues. So far this year, several high-profile officials, including Turkish Foreign Minister H.E. Hakan Fidan and Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Ms. Tanja Fajon, have visited CCG to explore positive approaches that could lead to long-term global resilience amid a wide range of changes and challenges in the current international landscape.
