China in transition from demographic dividend to talent dividend

April 21 , 2023

According to the United Nations Population Fund’s State of World Population Report 2023, released on Wednesday, India, by the middle of this year, is projected to be the world’s most populous country.

In an interview with CGTN anchor Xu Qinduo, Wang Huiyao, president of the Center for China and Globalization, and Tim Dyson, emeritus professor of population studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science, share their thoughts on this topic. Wang Huiyao says that China is shifting from a demographic dividend to a talent dividend, which is a reflection of the transition from high-speed development to high-quality development and that China’s outstanding infrastructure is still attractive to foreign investment. Tim Dyson points out that China’s reducing birth rate contributes to better education resources at a higher level, which improves the level of human capital.
