Sept. 5, 2014 (Beijing) -The Center for China and Globalization signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China.org.cn, China’s government authorized portal site, signaling the beginning of a strategic partnership to build an online media platform for China’s think tanks.
Dr. Wang Huiyao, CCG’s President, and Mr. Xue Lixin, China.org.cn’s deputy editor in chief, signed the MOU at a ceremony to launch the “China Think Tank”channel (http://www.china.com.cn/opinion/think/) affiliated with China.org.cn, witnessed by scores of scholars from China Academy of Social Science, China Center for International Economic Exchanges, Tsinghua University, Renmin University, Beijing University, and Charhar Institute. The signing ceremony was followed by a seminar on “new model’s Chinese think tanks.”
Dr. Wang pointed out that China has entered the era of think tank. “More than ever, the top leadership of Chinese government need think tanks to participate in policymaking, so think tank plays an essential role in enhancing a country’s soft power and ensuring sound policymaking on a scientific basis,” he said.
“In the meantime, China’s think tanks are becoming more diversified, with private-run think tanks emerging as a driving force to boost China’s thought market and improve policy making.”
Xue Lixin, Deputy editor of China.org.cn
Against such a backdrop, China.org.cn launched the “China Think Tank” channel. Mr. Xue Lixin said the purpose of building such a website is to provide a tailored media platform to present public the research outcome of China’s think tanks and enable national and international exchanges among think tanks.
Xue said he hopes “China Think Tank” can establish long-term cooperative relations with more top think tanks in China, and integrate think tanks’ intellectual strength and China.org.cn’s communication resources to make strong social impact. He believes through the strategic partnership with the think tanks like CCG, the process of industrialization and globalization of China’s think tanks can be accelerated.
In a response, Dr. Wang said he was also confident that the strategic partnership sets a good example how think tanks and media can cooperate and learn from each other to achieve mutual development.
