China Think Tank Impact Report (2018) released; CCG ranked top non-governmental think tank
May 13 , 2019The Center for China and Globalization China was ranked the top non-governmental think tank for its overall influence by the “China Think Tank Influence Report (2018)” released at the Sichuan Academy of Social Sciences on November 25, 2018. The report is an outcome of a joint study by the Sichuan Provincial Academy of Social Sciences and the Chinese Literature and Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Chengdu. It is also the first ranking list in China to evaluate the social influence of think tanks.
The report evaluates the influence of 480 think tanks in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan in 2017, using a combination of subjective and objective criteria that reflects a think tank’s influence in five aspects – decision-making, professional fields, public opinion, society and international community. CCG is also the only non-governmental think tank on the ranking lists of the top think tanks for the influence on decision-making, public opinion, and international community, respectively.
Since its establishment 10 years ago, CCG has developed into one of the most high-profiled think tanks in China to promote globalization with significant influence at home and abroad. In the world-known “Global Go To Think Tank Index Report” by the University of Pennsylvania in 2017, CCG was ranked among the world’s top 100 think tanks, and selected as the No. 1 in China on the list the world’s best non-governmental think tanks. At the same time, CCG has also been highly recognized by many authoritative think tank ranking lists in China, such as the “China Think Tank Index CTTI 2017 Development Report” published by Nanjing University and Guangming Daily that ranked CCG the No. 1 out of the top 10 non-governmental think tanks, and CASS’s “Chinese Think Tank AMI Evaluation Study Report 2017) that includes CCG in the list of “Core Think Tanks”.
By 2017, CCG has established three research institutes in Guangzhou, Qingdao and Dongguan, two branches in Shanghai and Shenzhen, six overseas representative offices in Hong Kong, Washington D.C., New York, Berlin, Paris, and Sydney, and one council in Hong Kong with full-time staff, making it another important milestone in CCG’s history. This year, while celebrating its 10th anniversary, CCG has seen the establishment of the National Immigration Administration, which it has been advocating for in the past decade, as a showcase of its impact on policymaking. In 2018, CCG also won the “Special Consultation Status” of the UN ECOSOC, as the first Chinese think tank officially granted this status. It is also the only non-governmental think tank that has won the “China Think Tank National Policy Consultation Award”, which reinforces CCG’s supportive role in national policy advisory work.
To expand the “Track II Diplomacy” activities, CCG has repeatedly visited the United States in the past two years for dialogues and exchange with political, business, and academic communities through high-level meetings, seminars and other public events.
In the past decade since its establishment, CCG has adhered to the independent research as a think tank and actively promoted China’s perspectives at every critical moment in the process of globalization, and has made significant contribution to building a win-win cooperation between China and the United States, promoting China’s globalization, and expanding China’s participation in global governance. CCG is committed to advising on public policy to help with China’s decision-making and shape international agenda, with its global perspectives, international talent, research and partner network around the world, creative thinking and widespread communications channels.
CCG’s ranking in the report is an important endorsement of its influence on policymaking, research and society. CCG will continue to fulfill its obligation as a non-governmental with policy consultation and do its part to help with policymaking with high-quality and high-level research.
