Countries, like companies, have to change their business models as world circumstances change. In the early 2000s, China’s development model was based on low-wage manufacturing combined with high savings and investment rates. The very success of that model in drastically raising living standards has now led the Chinese government to adopt an ambitious set of policies to upgrade China’s industry, to escape the so-called middle-income trap and to support a green environment.

Wang Huiyao: G20 summit stresses unity and inclusiveness
On July 7 and 8, the 12th G20 summit took place in Hamburg, where governments from 20 major economies gathered. The delicate diplomatic waltz didn’t hide the stormy discord between world leaders. Host Chancellor Angela Merkel had previously slammed President Donald Trump’s withdrawal of the US from the Paris Agreement. UK Prime Minister Theresa May continuously looked for allies in the face of Brexit. The relationships between China, the US and Europe have become increasingly unpredictable, and the 12th G20 summit was doubtlessly a collision between globalization and anti-globalization.

Wang Huiyao: More should be done to lure tourists
Although China’s outbound tourism has been consistently increasing for the past few years, a report released recently by the Center for China and Globalization (CCG) showed that the situation of China’s inbound tourism is not as ideal. In 2015, the number of inbound tourists was 30 million fewer than that of outbound ones.

"International order" means the rules, or in other words, universal values, concepts and mechanisms, in global governance. It is shaped by major powers and followed by smaller countries. Rising powers are always attempting to break these rules and re-establish a new order that reflects their values.
