Dr.Wang, Huiyao (Henry) is the Founder and President of Center for China and Globalization (CCG),the leading independent global think tank in China which has over 100 full-time researchers and working staff. According to the “2017 Global Go To Think Tank Index” by the University of Pennsylvania Think Tank and Civil Society Program (TTCSP), the most prestigious think tank ranking in the world, CCG ranked 91st of the top 100 world think tanks and was one of the world’s top 40 independent think tanks. TTCSP ranked CCG as the 6th top think tank in China and No. 1 independent think tank among the top Chinese think tanks. Dr. Wang is also a top adviser to the Chinese government. He was appointed as Counselor for China State Council by the Chinese Premier in 2015. Dr. Wang is a well-known thought leader on China and globalization, China going global, Chinese global migration and talent flows, Chinese students studying abroad and returnees, and on global think tanks. He is also a top adviser to international organizations such as World Bank, IOM and ILO as well as to global MNCs. Dr. Wang has an impressive work career span over both Chinese and foreign governments, multinational executive, social entrepreneurial and academic fields.
Dr. Wang currently is also the Vice Chairman of China Association for International Economic Cooperation (CAIEC) under Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM); Vice Chairman of China Talent Society under Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security; Expert Committee Member of China State Council Overseas Chinese Office; Vice Chairman of China Western (Overseas) Returned Scholars Association, Vice Chair of Expert Committee of All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese;. In addition, he is also Dean of Institute of Development Studies at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics.
Dr. Wang was a Senior Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School and a Visiting Fellow at Brookings Institution. He has taught at Peking University, Tsinghua University, University of Western Ontario. He is a Policy Fellow of IZA and was a Senior Fellow at Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada. Dr. Wang sits on the Migration Advisory Board of International Organization of Migration (IOM) of the United Nation and is an advisory expert for the International Labor Organization(ILO) (CCG Report: Attracting skilled international migrants to China) and World Bank. Dr. Wang is also a member of Yale University Asia Development Council, a member of advisory board of Richard Ivey School of Business in Asia, an advisor for Laureate Education Group, a steering committee member of Metropolis International Network. He is a well sought after speaker at different international forums and frequently interviewed by influential global media
Dr. Wang has a BA degree in English and American Literature from Guangdong University of Studies and later continued his graduate studies at University of Windsor, University of Western Ontario and University of Manchester, obtained an MBA degree and a PhD degree in international management. He also undertook further training at Harvard Business School and was a Senior Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School.
Dr. Wang used to work as an official for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade (now Ministry of Commerce) and involved with China's going global initiatives. His international experience includes serving as Chief Trade Representative for Quebec Government Office in Hong Kong and greater China (the first mainland born Chinese to be appointed to this position in Canada), Director of Asia of SNC-Lavalin and Vice President for AMEC-Agra in Canada, both among the largest project consulting and management companies in the world. He has also served in the past as a senior China adviser to GE, Siemens, ABB, Alstom, Westinghouse and Mitsubishi among others.
As an top adviser to the Chinese government, Dr. Wang was appointed as the expert group leader for global talent strategy study by Department of Organization of Chinese Government and served as a key member in drafting China's National Talent Development Plan (2010-2020) and recommended China's Thousand Talent Program which has attracted nearly 10,000 high level talents back to China.
Dr. Wang has done exceedingly well in think tank, academic and research fields. In addition to be the founder of the leading independent think tank in China, he has been appointed as an adjunct professor at the University of Western Ontario's Ivey School of Business and Peking University's Guanghua School of Management. He has also been a visiting professor at the China University of Political Science and Law, China Agricultural University, Xian Jiaotong University, Harbin Engineering University, Capital University of Economics and Business and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Dr. Wang has published over 60 Chinese and English books in these fields and over 100 articles and papers on these subjects.
He is the Founding President of China Global Talent Society, and Vice Chairman of the China Western Returned Scholars Association (WRSA), the largest Chinese overseas returned scholars' organization in China with over 100,000 members across China. In addition, He is a Deputy Director of Central Economic Committee of China Jiu San Society and is an adviser to Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Beijing Committee as well as serving as a Standing Director of China Overseas Friendship Association. Dr. Wang is currently on the Migration Advisory Board of International Organization of Migration (IOM), a member of Yale University Asia Development Council, an advisor for Laureate Education Group, a member of advisory board of Richard Ivey School of Business in Asia, a Steering Committee Member of Metropolis International, a policy fellow of IZA and an advising member to the board of Association of Executive Search Consultants in New York.
Dr. Wang is well known for his initiatives and leadership for social organizations and think tanks in China. Dr. Wang was appointed as an expert’s group leader for global talents strategy study by Chinese Government Talents Coordination Office as well as a team leader for economic group of Overseas Experts Advisory Committee for the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office.
