David (Yi) Li is Chairman and Country Head of UBS China, Member of APAC Management Committee and Chairman of Board for UBS Securities Co., Ltd. He is also member of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Beijing Committee, Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Asia Executive Board for the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Before joining UBS in June 2005, he was Managing Director of China Merchants Holdings (International) from November 2001 to May 2005. Under his term, the company was added to Hong Kong Hang Seng Index as a component stock. In 2004, David was named one of the ‘Asian Best Business Leaders for 2004’ by CNBC.
After graduating from Wharton School of Business, David joined Citicorp in New York and then spent more than seven years in securities trading, direct investment and investment banking on Wall Street. In 1995 and 1996, he was Chairman of the China Finance Society in New York.
Between 1976 and 1980, David was a professional soccer player at the Shaanxi Professional Soccer Club. From 1983 to 1984, he was the Vice Chairman of All-China Student Federation and from 1984 to 1988, he was the Deputy Secretary-General of Beijing Student Federation.
David obtained a Bachelor of Education at the Beijing University of Physical Education in 1984, an LLB from the China University of Political Science & Law in 1988 and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at University of Pennsylvania in 1992.
