Dr. Xavier Chen has been President of Statoil China since 1st May 2014.
He is one of the founders of the Beijing Energy Club, and has been running it since its foundation in 2008.
Before joining Statoil, heworked ten and half years for BP with last position as Vice President of BPChina for Policy and Business Integration.
Before joining BP in 2003, Dr.Chen worked for 8 years at the International Energy Agency (IEA) in Paris.
Between October 2000 and July 2003, he was the IEA’s China Program Director.
Between September 1997 and October 2000, he was the Chief of Staff to the head of IEA.
Dr. Chen joined the IEA in February 1996 as Senior Economist at the Division of Asia-Pacific and Latin America.
From 1993 to 1996, Dr. Chen worked for the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Asian Institute of Technologyin Bangkok, Thailand.
From 1988 to 1993, Dr. Chen worked as researcher at the Institute of Energy Economics and Policy in Grenoble, France.
Dr. Chen obtained his Ph.D. in applied economics from the University of Grenoble in France. He is also the author of two books: "Change Our Future by Changing Energy– China's route to tackle the challenges" (Xinhua Press, 2008, Chinese) and "Developing China's Gas Market – the energy policy challenges" (IEA/OECD, 2002).
