Mr. Gao is currently partner and managing director of Marathon Venture Partners (MVP). MVP is an international VC fund founded by a team of senior investment professionals. It currently has one USD fund and one RMB fund under management. MVP inaugural funds have the focus on early and growth stage companies in healthcare and Fintech INTECH industry, with the belief in great opportunities arise out of deregulation and the belief in technology breakthrough and innovative model in building new ecosystem.

Professor Josh Lerner has been invited as the special advisor to MVP. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on the Future of Investing. Professor Lerner has recently been named one of the 100 most influential people in private equity over the past decade.

Before Marathon Venture Partners, Donald has held position as senior investment manager in multiple international PEVC fund and has helped establish a VC fund with a focus on world-class frontier technology in new material, advanced manufacturing and energy efficiency; Before that, Donald conducted early stage investments in life science and biotechnology in Silicon Valley with successful exits. Donald is in close connection with Y Combinator.

Prior to that, Donald worked as an associate in Citigroup investment banking division where he was involved in cross border LBO. Earlier in his career, Donald held diplomatic position as a vice commercial consul to the USA where he was responsible for China’s overseas investment strategies and execution in west coast.

Donald co-authors Venture Capital in China with Hon. Cheng Siwei, “Father of Venture Capital in China”; he is president of “Shanghai Strategic Emerging Industries Foundation” and a life-time American Mensa member.

Donald holds an MBA degree from Harvard Business School and obtained a B.A. from Nanjing University.
