New Year Greeting from Center for China and Globalization (CCG)

June 05 , 2019

Dear CCG Friends,

With 2016 winding down and 2017 right around the corner, we want to take this moment to thank you for supporting our cause in the past year and applaud your continued backing in the future. Here is our sincerest wish for a happy and healthy new year to you and yours!

The Year 2016 has witnessed a rapidly changing world. Upholding the principles of being an “international, influential, and constructive” think tank, CCG has been persistently carrying out its mission of providing sound policy advice on the globalization of Chinese talent and enterprises with international perspectives. On the other hand, CCG has contributed significantly the wisdom and ideas of Chinese thinktanks to the development of global governance mechanism.

More has been achieved in the past year, including:

  • 112 research projects completed
  • 92 policy advisory reports submitted
  • 17 books published
  • 24 study reports released
  • 126 academic and public events (forums, seminars, releasing ceremonies) held

Among all the research projects in various fields, CCG has been particularly dedicated to the study of globalization and global governance in 2016, holding a number of events on the issues like de-globalization, WTO’s prospect and the future of the Sino-US economic relations, and publishing a series of reports such as “Understand De-Globalization Objectively and Push Forward Inclusive Globalization Proactively” and “Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific: Best Option in Post-TPP Era?”

CCG’s policy advice has been widely adopted by the central and local governments. For instance, CCG has been playing a crucial role in Beijing government’s reform on the entry and residence policies for overseas talent. China’s membership in the International Organization for Migration is another key outcome of CCG’s policy advocacy efforts.

CCG’s has rolled out 17 bluebook reports and other books in 2016. Among them, the annual report on the Chinese studying abroad and globalization of Chinese companies have been increasingly recognized by the government, academic circle and media as key references and guidance on those issues. Other books such as the report on Chinese International Schools, innovation and entrepreneurship education at Chinese higher education institutions, and employment of returned overseas Chinese also received heightened attention from society.

In the past year, CCG continued to serve as a high-level platform and network that engages government, business and academic players in the constructive discussion about key policy and social issues, hosting the events such as ““China Talent 50” Roundtable Forum, China and Globalization Roundtable Forum, China Outbound Investment Forum, and Forum on Chinese Overseas Returnees Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The 2016 China Forum on Development of Globalized Companies, in particular, became the most recognizable event for globalized companies investing in China.

Internationally, as the earliest Chinese think tank going abroad, CCG has left its footprint in more countries around the globe in 2016 and become a more active role in “Track II” diplomacy, participating in various exchange activities in the United States, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and other countries. CCG also hosted a great number of political dignitaries, prominent scholars and international organization leaders to deliver speech and release reports in China.

More acknowledgement has been received nationally and internationally. The 2015 Global “Go To Think Tank Index” by the University of Pennsylvania Think Tank and Civil Society Program (TTCSP) ranks CCG the 110th top think tanks in the world and one of 100 top think tanks to watch for in the world. CCG is also listed as the 7th think tank in China and No. 1 independent think among the top Chinese think tanks. In the 2016 Chinese Think Tank Influence report by Sichuan Academy of Social Science and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, CCG is the only independent think tank among the top 10 nationwide. A most recently-released 2016 Chinese think tank evaluation report by Nan Jing University and Guangming Daily also ranks CCG as China’s No. 1 independent think tank and CCG President Wang Huiyao the top independent think tank scholar. In addition, CCG was selected as one of the top 10 “One Belt, One Road” think tanks by the “One Belt One Road 100” Forum and crowned “the 2016 CBOTOP most internationally influential think tank in China” by the International Brand Federation. CCG also won the top reward in Phoenix TV’s global think tank election.

CCG’s research and activities have been extensively covered and quoted by over 100 domestic and international media, including People’s Daily, Xinhuanet.com, China Daily, CNN, BBC, Wall Street Journal, CNBC. More than 3,000 articles were found published throughout the year and reposted for hundreds of thousands of times in total. The key word “CCG” in Chinese generated 1.29 million items on google search engine and that in English generated 15.1 million.

More networks and capacity has been established. In 2016, CCG family has further expanded after two new branches were set up in Shanghai and Shenzhen, respectively, making it grow into a think tank that has three research institutions (Guangzhou, Qingdao and Shenzhen/Dongguan), two national branches (Shanghai, Shenzhen) and six overseas representatives (Hong Kong, Washington, D.C., New York, Frankfurt, Paris, Sydney) with over 100 full-time academic and administrative staff.

In 2016, CCG also upgraded its Chinese and English official websites and enhanced its social media engagement to share its voice and ideas with more domestic and international audiences (Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CCGthinktank/) (Twitter:https://twitter.com/CCG_org) (LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/center-for-china-and-globalization)

We are proud of and encouraged by what have been achieved, and truly believe that nothing mentioned above could have been made possible without the support of our members, fellows, partners and friends. Therefore, we are deeply gracious for having you by our side.

Moving on, much more needs to be achieved. Knowing there is a long way to go, we believe that challenges can only make us more driven and empowered and the dream will motivate us to build a greater cause. In 2017, CCG will continue to grow the strength in the area of its expertise and expand its academic research capacity, with focus on China’s globalization strategy, global governance, globalization of Chinese talent and enterprises. In addition, CCG will step up the effort to build a more globalized and professional team and to accelerate the realization of its policy study outcome. Through closer cooperation both at home and abroad, CCG is determined to produce more valuable and constrictive advice on China’s domestic policies and globalization strategies.

It is our sincere hope that CCG can continue to receive your generous support and sound advice to improve our practice and impact. Thank you and let’s take our partnership and friendship to another new year!
