Following the European Industrial Revolution in the 19th century, the world experienced a process ofgradual Europeanization. The technologies, cultural and philosophical notions brought by European nations and colonialists profoundly influenced the development of the rest of the world. With the end of the Cold War, America’s economic, military and technological dominance saw the world rapidly Americanized.In the 21st century, China as the second largest economy, along with leading Asian nations such asJapan, South Korea, Singapore, and India, have once again put the Asian continent in the global spotlight.

On June 11th, the Center for China and Globalization (CCG) will welcome the distinguished Dr. Parag Khanna to deliver a speech at Beijing Headquarters. Following the release of his most recent book, The Future is Asian: Commerce, Conflict and Culture in the 21stCentury, Dr. Khanna’s speech will cover the key themes of the book and give audience members insight into the globally renowned author’s writing and work. Adopting historical and political lenses, The Future is Asian provides readers the opportunity to imagine the formation of a new world order, helping readers see through the current political situation, and view China, Asia, and the wider world from a new, innovative perspective.

Dr. Parag Khana is a leading global strategy advisor, world traveler, and best-selling author. He is Founder & Managing Partner of Future Map, previously a global governance fellow at Brookings Institution, adviser to the US National Intelligence Council’s Global Trends 2030 program, senior researcher at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore, adviser to the US National Intelligence Council and US Special Operations Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, has two hugely popular TED talks, and is a regular news commentator on leading U.S. and global media such as CNN, BBC and Al Jazeera, among others.

Dr. Parag Khanna is the Managing Partner of Future Map, a data-driven scenario-planning and strategic advisory firm that works with some of the world’s most innovative governments, cities, and companies. He has been a fellow at the Brookings Institution, New America, and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University ofSingapore, and an adviser to the US National Intelligence Council’s Global Trends 2030 program and US Special Operations Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is the author of The Second World, How to Run the World, Connectography, Hybrid Reality, and Technocracy in America. Born in India and raised in the UAE, New York, and Germany, Parag holds a PhD from the London School of Economics and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. He has been honored as a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum, named one of Esquire’s “75 Most Influential People of the 21st Century,” and featured in Wired magazine’s “Smart List.
