CCG Releases China’s First Annual Report on Overseas Chinese Professionals

CCG released the Annual Report on Overseas Chinese Professionals (2014) at a joint press conference with the Social Academic Press (China) on Aug. 5, 2014. It is China’s first report dedicated to overseas Chinese professionals internationally. The report received a great deal of attention and applause from government agencies, academic circles, and the business community.

Dr. Wang Huiyao, CCG President and author of the report, told a press conference at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences that the book analyzes the transformation of the occupations of overseas Chinese. In the past these included professions such as cooks, tailors, and hairdressers but that nowadays they are comprised of engineers, doctors, accountants, scientists, entrepreneurs, and inventors. The book also reflects on the significant roles overseas Chinese professionals have played in China’s history.

Cai Jihui, the Executive Dean of Yearbook Research Institute, affiliated with the Social Academic Press (China), believes that the report “fills in the blanks” in the research on overseas Chinese. Mr. Cai stated, “The Annual Report on Overseas Chinese Professionals (2014) provides us with an academic perspectives on overseas Chinese professionals, and makes a great contribution to data collection for national research.”

The press conference was moderated by CCG’s Vice President Frances Sun, and followed by a panel discussion on the 2014 Report and the future of China’s think tanks. Other attendees at the conference included:
