CCG Honors Best Returned Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs at China’s Biggest Talent Exchange Event

At the seminar, CCG and China Union of Service Organizations for Returned Overseas Students announce the most 50 outstanding overseas Chinese entrepreneurs and their business with greatest potential.

The convention, hosted by the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and State Council’s Overseas Chinese Affairs Office is most historical, inclusive, and influential exchange platform for returned overseas Chinese, attracting hundreds of Chinese professional at home and abroad every year.

At the announcing ceremony, Wang Huiyao, CCG President and Vice Chairman of the Academic Advisory Committee for Returned Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurship, releases the ranking list of the 2016 most promising enterprises established by returned overseas Chinese. According to Wang, the ranking is launched by the Center for Overseas Chinese Students and Scholars at the Ministry of Human Resource and Social Security, with a goal to enhance the support to the business start-up by overseas Chinese students. A total of 18 companies are selected in the ranking list after several rounds of nomination and evaluation since September 2016, including Shanghai OPM Biosciences Co., Ltd., Wangfeng Paslin Robot Co., Ltd., and Slightech, Inc..

Li Jing, the deputy director of the Center for Overseas Chinese Students and Scholars at the Ministry of Human Resource and Social Security, says that this effort is intended to strengthen the cooperation of government, companies and social organizations to create and maintain favorable environment for innovation and entrepreneurship.

CCG Secretary General Miao Lu releases the 2016 ranking list of the top 50 overseas Chinese for innovation and entrepreneurship. It is a result of 11 month-long survey, interview, discussion and academic review of nearly 200 cases, such as their innovativeness, influence, representation and social responsibilities.

The entries come from a great variety of sectors, including politics, business, art, academic study, scientific research and international organizations, but all have made outstanding achievement in innovation and entrepreneurship and played a leading role in the significant and influential events of globalization and social development in 2016. They include Robin Li, the founder of Baidu.com; Jean Liu, President of Didi; and Min Zhu, Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund.

This year, the winners demonstrate some new qualities compared to the past, such as their creativeness in new types of business models, contribution to China’s social and economic development by applying their know-how gained abroad, and younger ages (some of them born in the 1980s and 1990s) as well as their innovation bringing about great potential to people’s life style.  Many of them have cross-sector expertise or working experience in both government and academic institutes. In addition, in investing for business start-up, some of them also dedicate their resources and effort to charitable cause.

Wang Huiyao addresses at the event that the evaluation and ranking of returned overseas Chinese entrepreneurs is a significant move as China is promoting mass innovation and entrepreneurship. The overseas Chinese students possess global perspectives and up-to-date knowledge of science and technology and business management, and they are enthusiastically pursuing innovation and entrepreneurship. It is strongly believed that they will play a crucial role in building an innovation-driven economy in China.
