Tao Jingzhou

Tao Jingzhou is the Managing Partner at Dechert LLP responsible for developing the firm’s Asian practice. He has 30 years of experience in advising Fortune 500 companies on China related matters. His areas of practice include international mergers and acquisitions, arbitration, and corporate work. Jingzhou has represented major European, Japanese, and American companies in hundreds of transactions in China on such matters as the establishment of equity joint ventures, contractual joint ventures, and wholly foreign-owned enterprises; tax planning; strategic alliances; and intellectual property protection. He has acted as counsel, chief arbitrator, or party-nominated arbitrator in many international arbitration proceedings.

Jingzhou is member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, and the Advisory Committee of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission. Editorial committee of the Global Arbitration Review (GAR), director of the Foundation for International Arbitration Advocacy (FIAA) and co-chair of the China International Arbitration Club (CIAC). He is the Chair of the Commission on International Commercial Arbitration of ICC China, an adjunct professor at Peking University Law School, Tsinghua University and at East China University of Political science and Law, and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Jingzhou at received his LL. B degree in 1982 Peking University Law Department, graduated from the Université de Paris 1, Panthéon-Sorbonne (D.E.A) in 1984, and then received license to practice as an Avocat in Paris (France).

Jingzhou is author of several books in English and French on Chinese law. His books include Mergers and Acquisitions in China (Third Edition), Arbitration Law and Practice in China (Third Edition), Resolving Business Disputes in China, Non-Tariff Trade Barriers in China, International Execution Against Judgment Debtors and Droit Chinois des Affaires, Econamica (in French) and so forth. He also has written articles on matters related to Chinese arbitration, foreign investment, and foreign trade.
