CGTN | The Heat: UN Development Goals
September 27 , 2025
As the United Nations marks its 80th anniversary, we will focus on development, a key pillar of the UN charter. It’s not just economic growth but a comprehensive process that uplifts people’s livelihoods, advances technology, promotes education, and ensures sustainability.
As a founding member of the United Nations, China has consistently championed multilateralism, dialogue, and sustainable development. But the world is running out of time to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, by 2030.
We spoke with the Acting Administrator of the UN Development Programme, Haoliang Xu, about the importance of development cooperation.
Panel guests:
Huiyao Wang is founder of the Center for China and Globalization.
Sanusha Naidu is Associate Researcher at the Nelson Mandela School of Public Governance, at the University of Cape Town.
Otaviano Canuto is Senior Fellow at the Policy Center for the New South.
