20 US media leaders attended special dinner held to welcome CCG
April 29 , 2024Henry Huiyao Wang, Founder and President of the Center for China and Globalization (CCG), and Mabel Lu Miao, Co-Founder and Secretary-General of CCG, are visiting the U.S. this week.
In New York City, they were welcomed on April 29 to a special dinner hosted by Norman Pearlstine featuring U.S. media and thinktank leaders.
Mr. Norman Pearlstine, who hosted this dinner, was editor-in-chief of Time Inc., executive editor of The Los Angeles Times, managing editor of The Wall Street Journal, and chairman of Bloomberg Businessweek.

PAUL BASCOBERT – Paul is the President of Reuters News, the global news organization. He previously was a co-CEO of Gannett, President of Bloomberg Businessweek, and Chief Marketing Officer at Dow Jones.
JANE BOON – Jane is a Novelist. She has written for publications like The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg Businessweek, Time.com, McSweeneys.net, and TravelandLeisure.com.
ANDY BROWNE – Andy is a partner at Brunswick, the international public relations firm, and head of its China hub. Before that, Andy was at Bloomberg, working on the New Economy Forum. He has also served as The Wall Street Journal’s China Editor.
MARCUS BRAUCHLI – Marcus is Chairman of Blue Ocean Acquisition Corp., a SPAC, and NorthBase Media, a venture fund. He was previously Executive Editor of The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal.
DORINDA (DINDA) ELLIOTT – Executive Director, Fairbank center of Harvard University. Former Editor of Asiaweek in Hong Kong and Newsweek reporter in Asia.
MIKE FEDERLE – CEO of Forbes Media. As a 25-year veteran of the media industry, he has held top positions as Publisher of Fortune magazine and Group Publisher of the Time Inc.
ALMAR LATOUR – Publisher of The Wall Street Journal and CEO of Dow Jones & Co. Almar, who is Dutch, worked for The WSJ in Asia for several years as a journalist before becoming a corporate executive.
ALAN MURRAY – Former President of FORTUNE. He also worked at CNBC and The Wall Street Journal as Washington bureau chief.
LORI MURRAY – Lori is now on the Conference Board. She has also been on the faculty of the Naval Academy. She is an expert on geopolitics and macroeconomics.
Martin Smith – PBS Frontline Producer. In his 40 years producing and reporting, Smith has won every major award in television including four DuPont Columbia Gold Batons, five Peabody Awards, and eight Emmys.
PETER SPIEGEL – U.S. Financial Times Managing Director.
STEVE SWARTZ – Steve is the CEO of Hearst Corp., the very large and successful privately held media company with annual revenues well in excess of $10 billion. Hearst owns hundreds of magazines around the world, as well as newspapers and television stations in the U.S. Steve started out as a reporter and Editor of The Wall Street Journal. He then was the founding editor of SmartMoney magazine, a JV between Hearst and Dow Jones. He was then put in charge of Hearst’s newspaper division. He has been CEO for more than a decade.
ALICE YOUNG – Alice is the founder of Alice Young Advisory and the former independent director of AXIS Capital Holdings, Ltd. She has appeared internationally on CNN, PBS, ABC Nightline, Fuji TV, and China Television Network. She has been featured in The New York Times, Fortune, Forbes, Business Week, Newsweek and The National Law Journal.
FAREED ZAKARIA – Host, Fareed Zakaria GPS, CNN. He has been a columnist for Newsweek, editor of Newsweek International, and an editor at large of Time.
