CCG hosts Roundtable Discussion with Dutch Government Delegation in Beijing

The Center for China and Globalization (CCG), a leading non-governmental thinktank in Beijing, welcomed a ten-member Dutch government delegation from various departments to its headquarters and hosted a roundtable discussion entitled China’s Ecosystem of Science, Technology, and Innovation: Opportunities and Potential.

The Dutch government delegation was led by Mr. Michiel Sweers, Deputy Director-General for Enterprise & Innovation and Director of the Innovation & Knowledge Department, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy.

He was joined by Ms. Machteld Haaksman, Management Team Member of the Research and Science Policy Department, Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, Mr. Floris Lantzendörffer, Senior Policy Advisor, Innovation & Knowledge Department, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, Ms. Nora van Bracht, Senior Policy Advisor, Research and Science Policy Department, Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, Mr. Rick Huisman, Senior Policy Officer, Department for European and International Affairs, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, and Mr. Marijn Goes, Team Lead Domain Science International Collaboration, Dutch Research Council.

They were accompanied by officials from Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Beijing: Mr. Freek Jan Frerichs, Counselor for Science, Technology and Innovation, Mr. Yi-han Wen, Policy Advisor, Economic Department, Ms. Gabi Verberg, Senior Education Policy Officer, and Ma Qing, Officer for Science, Technology & Innovation.

Dr. Sun Yongfu, Non-resident Senior Fellow at CCG, Former Director-General of the European Affairs of MOFCOM, Dr. Gu Chao, Assistant Professor and PhD adviser at School of Government, Peking University, Wu Mengqi, CCG Research Fellow, and Wang Zichen, CCG Research Fellow & Director for International Communications joined the roundtable discussion from the side of CCG.

They shared views on subjects such as the recent major (policy) trends and developments in China’s ecosystem in science, technology, and innovation (STI), the future of China’s STI ecosystem after recent institutional reforms, and the opportunities and potential of cooperation between China and the Netherlands.

Kefan Ma and Jiaying Lv, two CCG interns, sat in and observed the discussion.

On April 12, a five-member Dutch government delegation headed by Joost Flamand,Director Security Policy at the Dutch Foreign Ministry, visited CCG and held discussions with CCG.
