CCG interaction with UN agencies
January 17 , 2020In August 2018, CCG was officially granted “Special Consultative Status” by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the only non-governmental Chinese think tank to have attained such status.
CCG has long been committed to research in the fields of globalization, global governance, and international talent mobility, and other topics pertaining to regional and global development. Through jointly releasing research reports and holding a series of activities, CCG has maintained long-term relationships with the United Nations and its affiliated agencies, established effective cooperation mechanisms.
In 2015, CCG president Wang Huiyao, a member of the Migration Advisory Board (MAB) of the United Nations International Migration Organization (IOM), was invited to attend the first high-level meeting of the MAB, before China’s accession was approved on the 65th anniversary of the IOM in 2016. Since becoming an official member state, China has played a more active role in international migration. CCG has made considerable contributions to this process.
CCG expert delegations have frequently visited UN agencies in this period when the global multilateral trade mechanism has suffered setbacks, global economic governance is facing unprecedented challenges, and sustainable development calls for concerted cooperation among countries. These visits provide the opportunity for CCG to strengthen its relationship with the UN, and also show the progress that Chinese think tanks have made in contributing to global governance mechanisms.
CCG and IOM jointly released the Chinese version of the World Migration Report 2015 and the World Migration Report 2013.
On May 7, 2015，IOM convened the first meeting of its high-level Migration Advisory Board (MAB) in Geneva . CCG president Wang Huiyao was invited to attend the meeting and shared his insights on CCG’s research and policy advisory activities on migration issues.
In August 2015, William Swing, director-general of the IOM, and Par Liljert, director of the IOM to China, visited CCG.
In March 2016, CCG co-organized a seminar on “Immigration and Urban Policy” with IOM and the International Labour Organization.
On October 27, 2016, Hans d’ Orville, former director-general of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in China, former deputy director-general, special advisor to the director-general, and Mehri Madarshahi, president of Global Cultural Interconnection, visited CCG.
To further understanding of current and long-term migration trends, CCG and IOM jointly released the Chinese language version of the World Migration Report 2018 on 08 May 2018.
On June 30, 2018, Amb. Nicholas Rosellini, UN resident coordinator and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) resident representative, spoke at CCG’s 10th Anniversary.

On November 17, 2018, Amb. Nicholas Rosellini, UN resident coordinator and UNDP resident representative, gave a keynote address at the 5th China Inbound & Outbound Forum jointly held by CCG, the China Association for International Economic Cooperation (CAFIEC), and the People’s Government of Sanya City in Sanya, Hainan.
On December 5, 2018, the first round of the Silk Spice Road Dialogues was convened in Beijing with the UNDP, CCG and Himalayan Consensus as co-hosts.
On December 6th, 2018, CCG hosted members of the media for a press conference on the dialogue, with key figures from the conference in attendance to respond to questions from the media.

The Center for China and Globalization (CCG), PRC Ministry of Commerce China Association of International Economic Cooperation (CAIEC), and United Nations China (UN China), in partnership with the Academy of Contemporary China and the World Studies (ACCWS), jointly held the 5th Annual China and Globalization Forum on April 14th, 2019 .
In May 2019, CCG, UNDP and Himalayan Consensus co-hosted the second round of the Silk Spice Road Dialogues in Beijing.
On May 6th, a CCG expert delegation met with Elliott Harris, assistant secretary-general for economic development and chief economist, at UN Headquarters to discuss future cooperation with the Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
On May 7th, a CCG expert delegation visited the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) and held an exchange with Jorge Chediek, director and envoy of UNOSSC, on potential future cooperation between CCG and UNOSSC on UN programs.
On May 6th, a CCG expert delegation visited the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and had a constructive conversation with Lu Haitian, Chief of the Capacity Development Programme Management Office of UNDESA, where plans were formulated for future cooperation.
On May 6th, a CCG expert delegation visited the United Nations NGO/DPI Executive Committee and met with the president, Bruce Knotts. The CCG delegation and Mr. Knotts spoke about relations between the UN and NGOs and discussed future cooperation opportunities for CCG at the UN.
On May 6th, a CCG expert delegation visited Marc-André Dorel, acting chief of the Non-Governmental Organizations Branch, and discussed relations between the UN and NGOs and discussed future cooperation opportunities.
On December 9, 2019, co-founder and secretary-general of CCG Miao Lu, vice president of CCG Victor Gao, and deputy secretary-general of CCG Tang Beijie visited UN Headquarters in New York.
On December 16, 2019, CCG participated in the 2020 New Year’s Reception hosted by the State Council Information Office at the National Museum of China in Beijing. Giuseppe Crocetti, representative of the IOM in China, Beate Trankmann, representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in China, and Cynthia McCaffrey, representative of UNICEF in China, were among those invited to the event.
