Gao Wei, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Auckland; Fellow of the Royal Society Te Apārangi.
Dr. Wei Gao is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, the University of Auckland. Received his D. Phil. from Oxford University UK, he worked at MIT, USA for 5 years before coming to New Zealand. His active research covers Nano-Materials, Thin Films and Coatings, Corrosion and Oxidation, Surface Science and Engineering, and Advanced Materials for Energy and Environmental Applications. He leads a group of ~25 people, has more than 700 refereed research publications including 410 journal papaers, 11 books/book chapters and 16 patents. He is the Fellow of the Royal Society NZ, Fellow of IPENZ, sits on a number of Editorial Board of international journals, and received a number of awards, including “RJ Scott Medal”, “James Cook Award”, “RH Cooper Award”, “Shorland Medal”, and “Distinguished Materials Scientist of China”. He is the member of Advisory Committee, Distinguished Overseas Chinese (by Chinese State Department), and also has close academic/research collaborations with a number of Universities and Institutes in China, Korea, Singapore and Japan.
