The Belt and Road Initiative is not China’s own initiative. By its nature, it is a global initiative particularly for countries along the route. With this initiative, we could have a clearer idea of the laws, regulations and cultures in these countries and build better connection among people and countries.
There will be plenty of room for cooperation, China will become better and become increasingly aware of local dynamics. But there will be competition from multilateral side, especially in places with most benefits. But it is undeniable that competition makes us better, and that China should not be afraid of competition.
Indeed, there are concerns from certain countries, but China needs to dialogue and communicate with these countries. The foremost task now is to build trust on the governmental level, which is also part of the aim of the upcoming summit. Moreover, we need to relieve these concerns by opening up and promoting exchange programs in areas such as tourism, training programs, etc.
